Did you know there was a time in scripture when Jesus asked the person He was about to heal to make a choice? The Living God asked this man to make an intentional decision about whether he actually wanted to be free. This man was sick for 38 years which rendered his legs paralyzed. He hung out by the pool of Bethesda with all the other folks who were sick. At a specific time of the year, an Angel would stir the water, and if you got in there first, you could be healed.
So when Jesus asks this man, sick for almost four decades, if he wants to be healed, it seems like an obvious “yes”.
But, in light of how long we will continue to do the things that keep us ill, the question He asks becomes rather wise and reflective.
In John 5:7, Jesus says, “Do you wish to get well?” The man’s response is how he can never get to the water when it’s stirred up, and Jesus says, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk. Immediately, the man became well and picked up his pallet and began to walk,”.
The word well means “good health; free or recovered from illness”. Other synonyms are healthy, restored, healed, mended and sound.
So again, do you want to be made well and be free?
You’re reading or listening to this devotional because you have some inkling that you may not be well. Like the man by the pool of Bethesda, he was acutely aware of his lack of freedom. He was as acutely aware of the difference made when he was set free. He immediately became well! I imagine he would do anything to maintain that wellness too. Today, we will discuss why we all need deliverance (or to be made well) and how it will impact our walk with the Lord.
Early in my walk, I watched several live sermons from YouTubers you may or may not know. But what is deliverance? The best example of deliverance is Jesus’ whole ministry. What did he do in all the Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John gospel accounts–He cast out unclean spirits from demonized people, healed the sick, and set them free completely! Christians have the same authority to set people free through deliverance. There is a resurgence of deliverance coming to the body of Christ through ministries that are not afraid to walk in their God-given authority.
After Jesus had set out seventy and they returned, they came back mad excited. In Luke 10:17, “…the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord even the devils are subject unto us through thy name”. Jesus replies in Luke 10:19, saying, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and authority over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Children of God are called ambassadors of the Kingdom of God:
18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And He gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making His appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:11-21 NLT).
As Christ’s ambassadors, we have the power to set people free by the authority of the name of Jesus Christ.
I had some foreknowledge about deliverance, so it was one of the first things I sought. As I mentioned in previous devotionals, I needed to be free from so much. Many of the services were live deliverance and self-deliverance broadcasts. Notice how I said several earlier.
Deliverance isn’t a one-shot process for everyone, although some may experience unclean spirits leaving them all at once. I did a combination of self-deliverance and deliverance at healing services and church. There is no one size fits all. However, the spirit of the Lord decides to move with you; it is how He chooses to move. The amazing thing about deliverance live streams is that their power isn’t diminished by time or space. God is outside of space and time, so when we operate in the Kingdom of God, healing flows freely and continuously. So don’t think for a second if you decide to watch these videos that, you won’t experience their power. Also, remember, deliverance should never cost you money. Jesus freely healed and set people free; thus, any deliverance ministry should do the same.
I will link the deliverance stream I watched live below. Beyond watching this stream, I advise you to get with a local church that does deliverance. I can suggest churches and resources depending on your region as best I can.
Do You Need Deliverance by Jenny Weaver
Demonic Objects Keeping Doors Open
Deliverance can be a long process. Depending on what they are being delivered from, some people have had hours-long deliverance sessions. It really just depends, as there are also stubborn demons that don’t leave right away. Additionally, we may have open doors that give the enemy the legal right to stay in our lives. Deliverance happens when we read the Bible and even as we remove objects from our homes. This is why the word of God tells us, ” Do not be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of the mind” (Romans 12:2) Mind renewal happens when we read God’s word and through deliverance. The Bible also tells us, “Neither give place to the devil, (Ephesians 4:27-30).” Certain behaviors, objects, ideas, and people are an open invitation for the devil to do what he wants with us, to us, and through us.

My prayer is that you will be bold to make the difficult decisions to close open doors and CHOOSE to be made free so you can walk this narrow path. The enemy is already constantly seeking who he can devour. Don’t give him the opportunity to devour you. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Always Throwing Something Out
My mom likes to say I’m quick to throw something out. She’s right, and I’m grateful for that level of detachment, even when it’s not easy. I was throwing out crystals, tarot cards, cutting off ex-friendships, and unfriending people on social media, including tarot channels on YouTube. I cleaned up my playlists and stopped listening to all the rap and r&b that were laced with cussing, pride, and sexual innuendo. Breaking up with my former girlfriend, deleting Google photos, getting rid of certain clothes, including boxer briefs and anything God would show me was an open door. Or items that would simply make it hard for me to leave the lifestyle and/or sin cycles.
I even had to throw out a tapestry that, at first, I thought was innocent but was actually promoting lust. This looks extreme to someone who doesn’t understand how hungry I was to live right in the sight of the Lord and to be FREE. I never want to hide behind something in the natural yet my spirit or my heart is not cleaned up or pleasing to God. Taking these actions on top of deliverance has made a massive difference.
I can go to sleep at night without the lights on because the fears I once had about the night are gone. I can sleep without worrying about being spiritually attacked. Let me also say some things we fight or are attacked by are things that are attached to our bloodlines. We may have never participated in them personally. Generational curses are a separate conversation. However, as I’ve followed the Holy Spirit step-by-step, I have more knowledge, wisdom, and discernment about what is good and evil and what the Lord is calling me to stay away from to protect my spirit. Trust, I ask God for all the wisdom regularly. James 1: 5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
In the world, we grow up hearing, “What you don’t know won’t hurt you,” in the Kingdom of God, we know this, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge,” (Hosea 4:6). The word destroyed means to “put an end to the existence of something by damaging or attacking it, damaged, attacked, demolished, ruined emotionally or spiritually, defeated utterly, obliterated, annihilated, wiped out”. How often did a lack of knowledge cause you to be destroyed or damaged? I can count on my hands and feet the many times I was emotionally, spiritually, and physically attacked and damaged almost to complete physical destruction because I had no idea of the spiritual implications of my decisions.
There’s A Price on Your Head
The kingdom of darkness hates us, but we have certain protection when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and are redeemed and reconciled to our Father in heaven. Psalm 91 says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings, you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.”
This does not mean you won’t have tribulation. Jesus tells us in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” This tribulation we will undoubtedly go through is way better with the Lord.
A Matter of Life or Death
There is an urgency to decide if you will continue following the broad way or choose the narrow. “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it,” Matthew 7:13-14. We can’t take all of our stuff with us on the narrow way. Bit by bit, the Lord, as we trust Him, will remove these things. Others He will ask us to remove. We become lighter and lighter, freer and freer as we are revived by His righteousness. And might I say, it feels good to be alive!
Are You Ready to Get Well?
The gospel is this, Jesus Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Jesus says, “For this is the will of the Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I myself will raise him up on the last day,” John 6:40. He again says, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws Him,” John 6:44.
Rest assured if you’ve read or listened this far; you are being drawn to Jesus Christ by the Father. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life,” John 3:16.
Time is running out. Getting to freedom begins with believing in Jesus for your salvation and receiving the free gift of eternal life. Then you must start or continue to walk a repentant life. You can make Jesus Christ Lord of your life today and/or rededicate your life, or repent from anything you feel God is calling you to confess if He is already Lord of your life.
To repent means to turn from your sins. Jesus will help you repent and will give you strength every step of the way. Don’t try to walk the narrow road alone. Get plugged into a good church and/or start digesting sermons from Bible-believing pastors. Below, I will link some of my favorite pastors, preachers, and teachers.
